Tag your items to subcategories to get more views

Hi, all,

For the past few weeks, the team has been working hard to release one of the most requested feature, subcategories. Yesterday, this feature was fully rolled out and we have started to notice that the average time spent on the site by buyers is now higher. Sellers which tag their items correctly also tend to generate higher sales.

The team also ensures that the design is as intuitive as possible and buyers will not need to adapt to drastic changes. The changes should be natural to the buyers.

For your items to appear in each of the subcategory, you need to tag the item with the exact wording as the subcategory name. Each product cannot be tagged into more than two subcategories as this will lead to triggering of the spam prevention algoritm which will then remove the item from the section.

How does this change impact your store and product items? Sellers can now take full use of the feature to get maximum exposure. As you work on tagging your items, you will definitely be rewarded with higher views. You can perform the following:

1. Start setting your items into the correct category and ensure that your product tags consist of the tag name that is the name of the subcategories.

2. An automatic crawl will also be started within this week to automatically tag your items into the correct subcategory giving sellers more exposure. This algorithm will not perform any changes to your category but will only add tags that it deemed appropriate to increase the views of your items. If your item is placed in the wrong category in the first place, the algorithm will not help much.

We hope that this feature will be useful for all sellers and the team will continue to work on wonderful features in the coming weeks!

Happy Easter Day to everyone!

Tommy

Hi, Mada,

Thank you for posting here! I will provide some explanation here on how subcategory works on Luulla.

The name of the subcategories are located at the sidebar whenever you clicked on a category page.

For the jewelry category, you can see the name of the subcategories using the following link:

http://www.luulla.com/handmade/jewelry

Currently, the subcategories for jewelry are: Necklace, Earrings, Pendant, Bracelet, Ring, Brooch, Copper Jewelry .

To make sure that your item appears in the correct subcategory, go to edit product and include the correct tag under the product tags and click save.

For example, once you included the tag Earrings in your product item, your item should appear in the following subcategory page.

http://www.luulla.com/handmade/jewelry/earrings

Hope this explanation helps! Wishing you a wonderful day!!

one more question.

So if I have a jewelry set I can tag it earrings and necklace.

tagging more than this 2 subcategories will put my Item out of search. the system will see it as spam, right?

Hi, Mada,

Thank you so much for your reply! It is definitely ok to tag a few items into two subcategories.

The tagging algorithm keep tracks of the number of items that is tagged into multiple subcategory for each seller. When there are too many items being tagged into multiple subcategories, the spam filter will remove the seller's item from certain subcategories and these items will be removed from search result.

If there are any of the items being flagged by the system, we will definitely contact the seller to inform her to change her product tags.

Thank you for asking this question as we think many seller has the same question on how subcategories work too!

In the future, as the number of items continue to grow within each subcategory, the team will introduce another layer of subcategory (sub-sub category) so that buyers can find all your items easily.

Thank you so much, Mada! And talk to you soon!
