This early twentieth century Art Deco large vintage button is in a flecked and mottled, greenish grey early plastic.with a central inlaid genuine Mother of Pearl disc. This has cut away "waisted" appearance. This is then carried into a repeating circular shape in the outer plastic edge. It measures 2.5cm ( 1-15/16ins) diameter. The whole central part is raised up and graduates to the sides (opposite the circles) where it is thinner. At the centre it measures 3mm thickness, and graduates to 1mm.It has a brass pin head shank and you can see how this was inserted into the plastic. The rear has a milled appearance.
I do not know what type of early plastic this is.It does not test for Bakelite and is impervious to acetone. In the past I have owned similar plastic buttons which dated stylistically to the 1920's.
It is in very good vintage condition, and just has a minute loss of definition along part of the edge. This is a very minute flea bite and does not detract from a most interesting button.
It comes from a non smoking pet free environment.
