About Authored Adornments

Welcome to Authored Adornments! My name is Julie and I'm currently living in Fairbanks, Alaska.

Authored Adornments has become my main, full time source of income and I am so incredibly excited and proud of my ever growing book page jewelry business!

Tell us a bit about yourself and Authored Adornments ?
Authored Adornments was originally started as a carefree, low expectations hobby. After seeing some similar types of items on Tumblr, I'd asked my husband sometime in early March/late April, 2012 if he would mind if I spent $30 on some supplies for a new craft I wanted to try out. He was amazingly supportive and had actually pitched the idea of trying to sell them to make the initial investment back. We decided that, worse comes to worst, $30 wont burn a hole in our pocket and best case scenario would be that I'd make it back and learn a little something along the way. And learn something, I did... The $30 investment turned into a $70 investment turned into a $250 investment turned into a business that is now supporting the two of us through his adventure through Law School at the University of Washington and my blossoming career as a full-time entrepreneur!
How did you get started in doing what you do? How long have you been creating?
I create book page jewelry (although no books are ever harmed!) and have developed a love for the entrepreneurial business. I hope to one day expand my business experience to include many many more types of book page pieces--we've got magnets, pins, cufflinks, etc.--and maybe even open a couple of new stores with all new, completely unrelated products! Authored Adornments has recently set up shop in the used bookstore that supported me through most of the business set up and growth. It's called the Pegasus Book Exchange and to anyone living in the greater Seattle are, feel free to stop by, check out the pieces in person and pick up a new or used book! We're also featured at the Ghost Gallery on Capitol Hill, Seattle and hope to expand the product line to some new retail places soon.
Where do you get your inspiration?
Working at a used bookstore definitely had its perks! I was able to see first hand what the new crazes were, plus I've always been a pretty avid movie watcher and knowing which new movies actually started as books is 1. facinating because *everything!* was a book first and 2. helpful with keeping up with the trends. Also, I'm on Tumblr constantly (follow me here! authoredadornmentsshop.tumblr.com) and I think I keep up pretty well with the internet fads, too.
What was your first creation? Do you have a favourite?
My first creation was the Katniss and Peeta necklace (not currently listed here, but feel free to contact me about it if you're interested!) My favorites definitely change... like all the time. I become very attached to the newest additions to the shop. I've recently made a few new additions that have yet to be added (again, feel free to contact me if you're interested!). These include pieces from Great Expectations, Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, and A Midsummer Night's Dream just to name a few :)
What have you created recently?
I have multiple new pieces (and a whole slew of old pieces!) to add to the shop. I've recently made some new pieces from Gone with the Wind, Les Miserables, Great Expectations to name a couple. I'm always open to doing Custom pieces, so please don't hesitate to ask :)
