Reasons to Travel Solo At Least Once

There is no doubt that it is nice to travel with your loved ones and share great experiences and unforgettable moments together. However, it can also be refreshing to travel by yourself. You might be terrified by the idea at first, but trust me it's more rewarding than you might know. I still remembered how nervous yet excited I am when I first traveled to London alone. But, I'm extremely glad I did, I experienced and learned so many things.

If you're on the fence trying to decide if you should take the plunge and travel solo, the following points might be able to convince you!

1. You'll get to know yourself better
While traveling alone, you will experiment numbers of things and you will finally get to know what you really like or dislike. Sometimes you can get into tough situations (such as lost of direction and found yourself in completely nowhere) where you will get to know about your physical and mental capabilities and how far you actually can push yourself.

2. It builds your confidence level and social skills
Traveling solo is a huge achievement itself. To travel alone, you need to step out from your comfort zone and force yourself to go out and interact with the locals in the country you are in! This allows you to build up your confidence level and social skills when comes to interacting with new people.

3. You'll grow more from traveling solely
Through travel, you have the chance to live amongst the locals, eat their foods, experience their cultures, religions, and everyday lives. And these guarantee to give you some epic life lessons that will make you far more educated than you previously were. Cue brand new experiences, lifelong friendships and a fresh perspective on the world.
4. You'll turn into a storyteller
You will see or experience things which are definitely worth sharing with your family and friends when you return home. From funny moments to embarrassing ones to even dangerous ones.

5. You'll get to meet incredible people and make new friends all over the world
One of the best thing about traveling solo is you'll meet incredible people along the way who party with you, help you, and inspire you! Sure, sometimes there may be a language barrier, but you can learn to communicate in so many other ways than just words! Young people make friends in no time, so do it while you're still young! YOLO!

6. You'll do things you never thought you would
As I've mentioned, travel will push you out from comfort zone. Bungee jump might not be your ideal of fun but when you're in South Africa's Niagara Falls, it might be exactly what you fancy!

7. Become independent
Who doesn't want to be independent, right? However, it is very hard to be independent when you're living with your family, stick with the same group of friends every day. So seize the opportunity of traveling alone and learn to be independent. This is due to when you're traveling alone, you are forced to make decisions, plan, strategize and be responsible for yourself. By coming hope with the skills of booking tickets, finding accommodation and budgeting, you'll be ready for anything life brings you in no time.

8. Spend time alone
You may not realize it, but spending time by yourself is a luxury. It's quite difficult to have alone-time when you're in the same city as your friends and family. However by traveling alone, you don't have anyone's voice in your head telling you what you should be doing and you can truly reflect. It can be quite invigorating to go out for dinner by yourself, so imagine taking in the beautiful sunset without having to fill the quiet moments.

9. It'll give you a chance to miss home
If you're feeling a bit bored of work/ your mates/ family life (don't lie), traveling alone gives you the opportunity to escape it all for a bit and gives you the chance spend some quality time on your ones.

10. Say goodbye to schedule conflicts!
If you're traveling with your friends or family, it can be quite challenging trying to figure out when to take your leaves while having to keep others schedules in mind. The nice thing about not having a travel buddy is you don't have to stress about booking your flights, you can check your schedule and book the flight instantly!

11. You can do it on the budget!
When you're traveling with your family or friends, not everyone would love to travel in a budget manner. So when you're traveling solely, you get to choose living in cheap hostels or hotels. You can survive on less and live out of a backpack. You can even sometimes skip a meal and still go through your day without much trouble.

12. There's no need for activity compromise
When you're traveling in a group, it is very common that you're interested in certain activity but your buddy is not at all or vice versa. This tends to happen as different person has different personality, and you might be on the adventurous side but your friend is more into shopping. However, if you're traveling alone, you don't have to compromise on activities, just get out there and make those memories!

13. Will there ever be a more prime time?
Listen,  you might not feel secure enough in your career path, like you have enough money or that it's a prime time to go traveling: but really, will there ever be a better time? You'll be gutted if you never take the leap, and as sassy Instagram text posts always say: if not now, then when?

xoxo
I highly encourage you all to try this at least once by exploring this beautiful world solely.
It may sound scary or uncomfortable at first, but the risk and rewards that follow are so beyond worth it.

Experience is far more valuable than money will ever be."
