Super-Adorable box here. The top is a piece of Maple with fantastic quilting figure and spalting... it has streaks of yellow through it that work beautifully with the purpleheart sides. The joinery on this box is miters with Ebony miter keys which have a dual purpose in adding both a decorative element as well as making the miter joint stronger.
The padded lining is upholstered with a black velvet fabric. This velvet is a premium, super-soft fabric that I found at my fabric shop and has quickly become my new favorite velvet.

Finished with a variety of products to enhance the grain as well as provide a high-gloss appearance. Finishing is the most variable and potentially complex part of woodworking. I easily spend the majority of time in my builds in finishing. Many stages... many products are involved in order to achieve what you see in my final products.
