The top is a piece of both highly spalted and highly figured Maple. The sides are highly figured Tiger Maple.
This box has a fully upholstered bottom to provide a deluxe interior. The five panels are individually upholstered with furniture grade materials and topped with a quality black velvet for this added touch of luxury which I only do for select boxes.

The joinery on this box is miters with Walnut miter keys which have a dual purpose in adding both a decorative element as well as making the miter joint stronger.
Finished with a variety of products to enhance the grain as well as provide a high-gloss appearance. Finishing is the most variable and potentially complex part of woodworking. I easily spend the majority of time in my builds in finishing. Many stages... many products are involved in order to achieve what you see in my final products.
