One of my unique, signature products are keepsake boxes lined in hand-selected Kimono Silks. So, naturally I had to make a wooden tray lined in Kimono Silk as well.
This silk material has a textured feel with the woven design. The colors are shades of rust and orange with a tannish arabesque design.
This lining is upholstered so that your items comfortably sit on a cushioned surface.
The joinery on this box is miters with Walnut miter keys which have a dual purpose in adding both a decorative element as well as making the miter joint stronger.
Finished with a variety of products to enhance the grain as well as provide a high-shine appearance. Finishing is the most variable and potentially complex part of woodworking. I easily spend the majority of time in my builds in finishing. Many stages... many products are involved in order to achieve what you see in my final products.
I sign and date the underside of these boxes.
