This candlestick holder is made from stoneware clay in the shape of a bird about to take flight. It has been decorated with black slip glaze and the wings, tail beak and stem of the holder were glazed in a greeny goldish color. The rest of holder was left unglazed for a nice primitive rustic affect.
The holder measures 6 1/2 inches in length and 2 1/4 inches at the widest part of the wings. It stands 4 1/2 inches tall.
The candle holder cup is a bit irregular in shape so I find melting the candle bottom is a good way to secure the fit properly. Any wax that melts can be removed by heating the candle holder in the oven or microwave or just scraping it off. The holder is sturdy and has a nice unusual appeal.
