One For Mays
"Life only happens once. You can wallow in the bad times, or you can move on and find the adventure around the next corner. Smile, and it will get you further than you may think."
-Mays Overton (1985-2013)
Mays, a dear friend of our family passed away too soon, on March 10th, 2013. He was a lover of all things steampunk and one of the main mentors for a robotics team located in Utica, Michigan. Mays was the inspiration for our steampunk zipper collection, and he rooted for us the whole way. This is our gift to him.
The A-Mays-ing Robotics Alliance Steampunk Zipper Bracelet is our first experience with functional steampunk, and we know Mays would have loved it. To honor his memory, his family has set up a scholarship fund to gift a prospective engineering student graduating from Stony Point High School in Round Rock, Texas, as well as to those participating in Mays' FIRST mentorship program here in Michigan. We're following suit. This bracelet is priced at $30. The first 25 we sell, $25 will be directly donated to the scholarship in Mays' name. After the first 25 have sold, $5 from each additional bracelet ordered (with Mays' initials) will be donated to the scholarship. Should you like to donate additional funds, you can find the scholarship donation link here: http://www.gofundme.com/eithion
Each robotic competition features a new challenge for the teams involved. Sometimes it's soccer, other times Frisbee. In this case, we've chosen to play basketball. This piece features a zipper robot with wheels with a "basketball" attached to a chain. Another zipper pull faces the robot and holds a "hoop" that can be erected while wearing. Place the basketball on the robot and pull the edge of the robot back and see if you can make a shot! (It's harder than it looks!) Attached to the hoop zipper pull is delicate chain with the initials "MO", for Mays Overton.
Should you rather your own initials featured on the chain, please indicate so.
Please note, any funds from a bracelet not featuring Mays' initials will not be donated in his name. Please also indicate whether this is to be worn on a male or female hand, as the sizes do vary. Please also allow us extra processing time, as this is a intricate piece. Thank you.
