I have created a crib toy, unique baby gift idea. This is a large sized wool ball, (12" around in circumference) filled with organic lavender. In the middle I have also felted a hanful of genuine jingle bells.
I have chosen to add lavender to the ball because of it's natural calming and soothing abilities. Placing this ball with baby in the crib can help sooth baby to sleep, it's calm and relaxing. I gained inspiration to do so because my own baby boy is not a good sleeper. He also LOVES wool toys. I lovingly came up with this idea and he has a vibrantly coloured wool ball with him in his crib nightly. Since giving this to him, he HAS slept more restfully... I attribute this to the lavender!
This ball has been created using clean carded sheep wool batting and then I've wrapped it using non-toxic, hand dyed wool roving. I chose to do this ball in vibrant primary colour tones. It's soft to the touch, very tactile. This toy is securely and firmly felted, durable and strong. I spent time lovingly felting a unique, artsy design to the ball, when baby is done with this, it can be a keepsake or wonderful home decor idea. It's quite a stunning piece to see and very vibrant and interesting. Years and years of enjoyment to be had with this toy. I also should add that the lavender scent will last a very long time, years actually!
Wool naturally repels bacteria. It has natural bounce to it. We play catch with our baby using wool balls, and when others join in, they are always very surprised how bouncy the wool is! Wool is soothing and comforting to little hands. Although firmly felted for safety, it also has some 'give' to it, making it easy for baby to grip and take along wherever they may go.
This is also a suitable toy for a toddler or child. It inspires pretend play, ignites a child's imagination! I prefer toys that INSPIRE the child, not toys that do all the thinking FOR the child.
