Athena – Wisdom and Integrity. Confidence and Courage. Talent for Art and Crafts. Passion for Philosophy and Science. Long Meaningful Life.
Athena is a Greek Goddess of Wisdom and Courage.
She is the Counselor and Executer of Justice, known for her integrity. To honor her as a Defender of Athens, the Headquarter of her Cult was named after her. Originally, Goddess of War, she was an inspiration for men fighting wars and battles. However she disliked fighting without purpose and preferred to use wisdom to settle disputes. With time, Athena gained reputation of more compassionate goddess. Her image became feminine in feature, clothing and gesture. She became an initiator of women’s rights and patroness of happy family and domestic arts. Her symbolic animal is an owl which represents the wisdom, patience and truthfulness. Athena was the most favorite daughter of Zeus, who according to the legend swallowed his pregnant wife Metis and gave birth to Athena through his forehead.
Throughout the ages, this goddess has been an inspiration for many artists as an appreciation for wisdom and honor. The enigma of her birth (she came out fully clothed and armed from Zeus’s Head) makes Athena that more interested.
Athena’s presence is believed to cure depression and anxiety. She disperses cloudy thoughts and promotes logical thinking. She is also known to clear writers block and other difficulties associated with creation of art or science.
Athena stands 19” tall and is all hand crafted, without using any paints or glue. Her body is made of skin color linen stuffed with fiber filling and covered with golden crocheted body-suit. The face is needle-sculpted, the eyes and lips are hand-embroidered with crochet-threads. The hair is a combination of brown wool and doll-hair, sewn onto the head. Some of her hair strands are individually crochet-chains ended with pearl-beads. Her headgear is a crocheted triple-crown decorated with pearl beads and golden lace. She wears crocheted shoes, matching anklets and bracelets, beaded necklace and a choker with miniature owl, the symbol of wisdom. Athena is wearing a long two-layered dress of golden and sparkly elegant fabrics. The longer layer is finished with shimmering lace and the shorter layer with dark beads sewn all around the rim. A golden band is wrapped around her waist and a thin silky sash is draped around her arms and shoulders, the fashion consisted with the ancient Greek costumes. The sash is also accented with beads. The doll is standing on wooden stand decorated with various glass and ceramic pieces symbolizing ruins of Athens.
This doll is rather meant for decorative purpose (not as a toy) however she is sturdily made and doesn’t contain items that would easily come off.
