Originally from South Africa, born and raised in a little town called Paarl, just outside Cape Town. In South Africa, school children are taught handcrafts such as knitting, sewing and crochet. I have been living, working and raising my family in the UK now for over sixteen years and has always kept my hand in when it came to knitting. But it wasn’t until more recently, whilst on maternity leave, that I started to produce lovely knitted items to be given as gifts to my friends or make them items to give to their friend's, as new baby gifts or for baby showers.
It was these friends who, delighted with their gifts, encouraged me to turn my talent into a business, producing the kind of quality not on the high street - and in January 2011, Knitaboo was launched.
I, strongly believes we should support local communities and buy handmade and local, wanting to protect the environment and prevent the child slavery that can sometime lie at the bottom of cheap mass production from certain countries. Buying Handmade means you know where it came from and buying handmade ensures high quality.
Items in the Knitaboo collection are only available in limited quantity, using the best wool that I can source. Her aim is to create unique, durable and easy care baby accessories that Mums will love.
