About Rue de Chic

Rue de Chic is a concept that evolved during my stay in France. I got fascinated by the "chic" of French and European fashion in general, which seemed completely different from the American experience. My exposure to high fashion as a freelance model in France inspired the creation of an avenue to dress chic and look polished for less.

Tell us a bit about yourself and Rue de Chic ?
During my stay in France. I got fascinated by the "chic" of French and European fashion in general, which seemed completely different from the American experience. My exposure to high fashion as a freelance model in France inspired the creation of an avenue to dress chic and look polished for less.
How did you get started in doing what you do? How long have you been creating?
I've been creating now for about 5 years. After starting out predominantly featuring unique fashion accessories, Rue de Chic has since blossomed into a fully fledged Clothing and Accessories store for Men (Rdc Homme) and Women with an accompanying Blog (www.ruedechic.com/blog) which attracts fans and followers across the world. Rue de Chic's online store not only features my designs but easy to wear pieces from other designers as well.
Where do you get your inspiration?
I get my inspiration anywhere from travel to architecture. I've always believed that the art of "chic" is all about details. The right accessories in the right color will always enhance your dressing. My mission with Rue de Chic is to create fashion at affordable prices using resources from different cultural backgrounds. Our goal is to inspire confidence and happiness in every individual that buys and wears our products.
What was your first creation? Do you have a favourite?
My first creation was a leather dress called "The Mercer Dress". I still remember wanting to do something unexpected with leather. The shocking turquoise blue color is the star of the show so it was important to stay clean and streamlined with the rest of the design. I decided to use an exposed black zipper in the back while going with slightly exaggerated shoulders for a subtle lift. The inspiration was a powerful working woman who was not afraid to stand out. The result was breathtaking.
What have you created recently?
I'm still working with a lot of leather because I think they're such investment pieces and if you take care of them, they'll literally last a lifetime. I've done motorcycle jackets and given them a modern twist so you can easily pair them with jeans or the girliest of dresses. I've taken the classic pencil skirt and added a little edge because of the material and I've also played with some old school style structured bags and modernized them so that they fit with ease with today's woman's everyday look.
