About SteamyLab

Hi there! Thanks for peeking into my shop!

I'm Silvia Marzucchi a busy mum of twins (a boy and a girl) and I enjoy making jewelry and accessories.

I spent 6 years in London where I set up my own business selling Murano Glass Jewelry and I graduated in IT at Middlesex University. In 2004 I moved back to my little town in Tuscany where I seriously started making jewelry.

At the beginning I simply assembled pieces together and then I moved onto soldering, wire wrapping, hammering, silver clay, crochet, and who knows what else I might do!.

When I start a piece I don't always have a specific design in mind, I just let my instinct guides me through the process and I let it come to life; a bit like that guy called Michelangelo used to do it!

I' m a very practical person so my jewelry reflects this aspect as it has to be comfortable and easy to wear.

I use a variety of materials and, as I believe that everyone can make this world a better place, I try to recycle and upcycle as much as possible, in order to create eco-friendly craftwork.

Tell us a bit about yourself and SteamyLab ?
I truly believe that everything happens for a reason! I come from a small community, and living in London for 6 years, has given me the confidence to step out of my comfort zone with enthusiasm and courage. London is a buzzing platform of creative minds, and that inspired me a great deal. I'm usually very organised, but when it comes to create my pieces, most of the times I just free my mind and I let my instinct guides me through the process. It's unpredictable which way I'll go around making my jewelry, and that's what I love the most; I don''t have to choose how to do it, I just do it! Contrasting statements are at the core of the majority of my designs, so most of my pieces are bold and simple. I use different techniques, and I tend to work with different materials, combining them in new ways. I very recently discovered crochet and I'm hooked already! I remember when I was younger, going to visit my grandmother, who would crochet beautiful patterns, and thinking: “how on earth can she do that?” She didn't know how to teach me, because I'm left handed and it was odd for her. Many years later, I decided to approach this amazing technique, and apply it to my jewellery designs, trying to create modern statement pieces. Lace is another material I love to use. It all started when my mum decided to give a new life to her beautiful wedding dress that, after so many years in the wardrobe, was going to get damaged. The dress is an original 1966's wedding dress, and it's part of my history; in fact that's why I am here! I embrace the idea to use the patterns to create unique vintage pieces of jewellery.
How did you get started in doing what you do? How long have you been creating?
I started making jewelry when I was in London, but I seriously started a business in 2005. I had a shop of bags and accessories in a very nice seaside town. I starting making my jewelry for the shop, and as I had a small lab, I could make custom items for my customers. It was fun and rewarding, so I thought that was my element, I had to concentrate just on my creations. I followed my instinct and fulfilled my dream!
Where do you get your inspiration?
From everything and everybody around me! I don't have one role model, I have millions! I'm inspired by everything and everyone around me. I really admire all self made artists, that start from nothing, hit rock bottom, and rise shiner than ever. My Keywords: Creativity Commitment Passion Instinct
What was your first creation? Do you have a favourite?
My first ever creation was a choker made with glass beads on a thin wire. My favorite collection is the one made using my mum's wedding dress, as it's very personal and it's part of my history. However, I consider all my creations my babies, so it's very hard for me to pick a favorite!
What have you created recently?
I very recently discovered crochet and I'm hooked already! I remember when I was younger, going to visit my grandmother, who would crochet beautiful patterns, and thinking: “how on earth can she do that?” She didn't know how to teach me, because I'm left handed and it was odd for her. Many years later, I decided to approach this amazing technique, and apply it to my jewellery designs, trying to create modern statement pieces.
