Are you ready to bid farewell to 2017?! Pantone is already in full force by revealing 2018 Colour of the Year on December 7th to greet the new year! Following the introduction of Greenery last year, the representative colour selected for 2018 is "Ultra Violet".

PANTONE 18-3838: Ultra Violet
- A way of looking at life, the universe & everything
This deep royal purple-blue hue suggests the mysteries of the cosmos, the interest of what lies ahead, and the discoveries beyond where we are now. The vast and limitless night sky symbolise what is possible and continues to inspire the desire to pursue a world beyond our own.

Enigmatic purples have also long been the symbolic of counterculture, unconventionality, and artistic brilliance. In the past, many musical icons such as Prince, Jim Hendrix, David Bowie were representatives of this colour system. All of them are rich in creativity and have the courage to break through the norm. In short, ultra violet represents experimentation and non-conformity, encourage individuals to imagine their unique mark on the world, and overcome boundaries using creativity.

After Ultra Violet is being known as the Colour of 2018, we began to see Ultra Violet appearing in full force on the SS18 runways via Gucci, Prada, Rochas, and more.

Besides runways, many fashion a-lists have already started to rock ultra violet pieces.

If you're like me who never wear purple before, start with accessories first. A pair of purple boots can instantly add a pop of colour to a monochrome look.

And if you want something more daring, opt for a skirt or a pair of pants in ultra-violet. You could either keep it simple by pairing it with neutral palettes or play with colour blockings. For an eye-catching combination, team ultra-violet with green, red, yellow.

When you're super confident in rocking ultra-violet, why not channel an all ultra-violet look! Trust me, you're going to look fab in it!

Aside from clothing, brands like MAC also launched #UltraViolet lipstick. Butter London is another early adopter which has a collaboration with Pantone featuring Ultra Violet-coloured lipsticks, eye makeup, liner, and of course, nail polish.

In the Pantone version, if you wear it/drink it/drive it, solutions may appear. Thats a pretty ambitious belief. Will you buy the idea?
Well, at this stage, a lot of us may try anything. Gird yourself. We may be in for a new kind of purple reign.
