The atmosphere at the 2018 Golden Globes have placed less emphasis on the glitz and glamour as many attendees, both men and women, have dominated the red carpet with black dresses and tuxedos this year. The all-black fashion effort is more than just a fashion moment. It's a symbol of solidarity. It's a united protest against sexual harassment in Hollywood and beyond.

In support of the #MeToo and #TimesUp movement, the powerful activism comes after The New York Times released a coverage on Harvey Weinstein's alleged acts of sexual assault and harassment. Since then, many of Hollywood's actresses have stand up and speak up about their similar encounters with the producer. It is said that the Weinstein Company's board has fired Harvey Weinstein after reports of sexual harassment complaints against him.

From this incident, it has shed light and raise awareness of the existing power imbalance in the industry which leads to abuse. As spoken by Debra Messing, it is shocking to hear that E! doesn't believe in equal pay between their female co-hosts and male co-hosts. She called out the TV network E!, during an interview with E!... how badass is that?

"I am wearing black to thank and honor all of the brave whistle blowers who came forward and shared their stories of harassment and assault and discrimination," said Messing during the live interview with Giuliana Rancic on E!. "Time is up. We want diversity, we want intersectional gender parity . . . I was so shocked to hear that E! doesn't believe in paying their female co-hosts the same as their male co-hosts. I miss Catt Sadler, and we stand with her."

Oprah Winfrey has contributed to this initiative when she took stage to accept the Cecil B. DeMille award for lifetime achievement and delivered a moving speech. Discussing race and gender and the fight for equality, the powerful speech has brought the audience to its feet. Read the full transcript here.

The remarkable speech has got people coming up with a wild idea of Oprah running for President although she had repeatedly expressed her disinterest in politics. Meryl Streep even gave a few ideas for an all-celebrity Cabinet if Oprah made it to the White House. I mean, the possibilities are there right? We already have Donald Trump as the first celebrity president , Barack Obama as the first black President. Having Oprah as President would be a total game changer. A black female celebrity president. That's 3 in 1...we'd be breaking the barriers of discrimination.

Oprah may have earned the vote from Lady Gaga and Meryl Streep but from the threads on Twitter, looks like we're getting a mixed response. Netizens may have liked her heartfelt speech but are words enough to prove true leadership? Will it be reality or just a fantasy?

On a less serious note, while the colour black has totally dominated the ceremony, what the stars wore definitely demonstrated their brightest shine when it comes to their fashion game. Here are a few of my favourite picks.

Gal Gadot wearing a strapless black Tom Ford gown with a tuxedo topper and Tiffany & Co. jewels.

Heidi Klum wearing a strapless asymmetrical gown with a feathered bodice and hemline paired with strappy sandals.

Like the feather fashion?

Wish to hop on the all-black bandwagon and show your support?

Despite the total black out at the red carpet, there are risk takers who broke the norm by choosing not to wear the colour. In fact, it's an odd choice of bold red (2 of them in a very revealing dress) considering the sea of black.

From left to right : Meher Tatna, Blanca Blanco, Barbara Meier
Hold back your criticism. The choice of colour to the ceremony doesn't mean the three celebs are against the movement. To cut the long story short,Tatna supports the movement but the decided to go with the colour because of her Indian culture. Besides, she said she strongly supports the movement and accessorized her outfit with a Time's Up pin. Blanco and Meier on the other hand believe that the issue than the dress colour. Women should have the freedom to wear whatever they want and it's a form of strength. Read more about it here.

Is red your colour?

Whichever side or colour you're on, I'd say let us fight sexual harassment together and stand with the victims of abuse. Time is up for us to remain silent and let this to go on.
