It started out with a party, as the best things often do. Karen made a simple mask and tiara to wear and it proved such a hit, when we decided to set up our own business together, it seemed an obvious choice. Both artists in our own right, we love costume and the amazing variety of colours available in the beads and wire we use means we're never short of fresh inspiration :)

Tell us a bit about yourself and Grin Grimace and Squeak ?

Where to start? Well, we're a pair of goth artists living in Scarborough on the east coast of the UK. We've been working together for some years now making handmade masks and accessories, it's a constant challenge finding new ways of using our materials so it's never boring :)

How did you get started in doing what you do? How long have you been creating?

We were both working busy jobs in London and had no time to create so decided to set up in business for ourselves three years ago to allow us to spend more time together and do what we loved best - making things :)

Where do you get your inspiration?

Costume is all about expressing yourself, so each piece represents a different aspect. We make seasonal pieces like the may queen here and our plant/animal forms are always very popular. We also produce more traditional masks to go with traditional evening wear so there is something for everyone.

What was your first creation? Do you have a favourite?

Our very first piece for sale was a simple eye mask like the one shown here, our favourite pieces though are the big carnival masks- wearable sculpture. Our very favourite is generally the one we've just finished so that changes constantly.

What have you created recently?

We've just put the whiskers on our new fox mask. We have a gothic weekend coming up later in the year so we've also done a red and black version of our popular cyber mask. We're also busy building a spectacular ram mask with big curved horns!
