About That Girl Knitz

I started knitting a few years ago when I met a lady who made bears to be sent to orphans in Africa. I loved the idea and set to work learning how to knit bears. From there I really caught the knitting bug and have knit everything from delicate lace shawls to socks! In all the years I have been knitting the passion has never waned and I don't believe it ever will! Thank you so much for visiting my shop and I hope you will be delighted by what you see!

Tell us a bit about yourself and That Girl Knitz ?
My name is Donna and I am a mother of 4 girls and Grammy to a grandson & grand daughter. I have been knitting for a few years and truly love it. I have worked in corporate America forever and recently stepped away to pursue my true love - knitting & creating. That is how That Girl Knitz came to be!
How did you get started in doing what you do? How long have you been creating?
I got started by meeting up with some knitters at Starbucks and learning from them. I really got hooked and have been knitting ever since! I have been non-stop knitting for 7 years! Love, love, love it!!!
Where do you get your inspiration?
My inspiration comes from a few places. Nature and the Runway. Both stretch me to go farther than I would normally go! It takes courage to use unusual colors and designs. Will people love it or hate it? Can I take the risk? Should I take the risk? Yes! The worst thing is being like everyone else. I love that I can take my craft anywhere and create. By the ocean, in the forest on a train. Love, love, love this art form!
What was your first creation? Do you have a favourite?
My first creation was a knitted bear. It was part of a project for The Mother Bear Project. This is an organization that sends bears to orphans in Africa. This would be my favorite! I remember being so scared to even try making this bear, it looked so complicated! With a lot of encouragement from my fellow knitstas, I completed my bear and it was sent to Africa. A few weeks later I got a picture of the child holding the bear I knit! I couldn't believe it, I was so proud!
What have you created recently?
Recently I have been knitting animal themed hooded cowls. They look great on everyone and are a big hit! I thought my target audience was children but more often than not I have women ordering them. They are just so becoming and fun at the same time! They also keep you so warm which is great. Why just stick a ho hum beanie on your head when you can be a little red fox?!
