About The Big Blue Bully Bus

I'm a VW enthusiast with a penchant for all things Handmade & Vintage; Providing things to make you look good; Things to keep you snug; Things to make your bus or bug look great; Things to turn camping in to 'glamping'!

Tell us a bit about yourself and The Big Blue Bully Bus ?
With both an Honours degree in Primary Design & Technology and a love of all things VW, I worked full time as a Class Teacher in an inner city Primary school in the UK up until January 2009. These days I travel around in a flower covered VW camper van and have lots of adventures; You can read about some of them in my weekly blog at bigbluebullybus.wordpress.com :)
How did you get started in doing what you do? How long have you been creating?
I've been creative since an early age; I was surrounded by talented family members who were eager to pass on their knowledge and skills in sewing, knitting and crocheting. I've regularly made things for myself, friends and family for a long time now but I guess things moved up to the next level in the early nineties when I began teaching crafting skills to others in local adult education classes.
Where do you get your inspiration?
Inspiration comes from anything and everything. I love colour, pattern and texture. Anything floral, shades of pink or green, orange and brown, patriotic oddities, sunshine and rainbows, VW's and vintage and I'm in there like a shot. But vintage has to be 'real' and not some faux Kath Kidston offering, and VW's have to be classic - air-cooled or water-cooled but DEFINITELY not modern!
What was your first creation? Do you have a favourite?
My first ever creations for The Big Blue Bully Bus were mainly kitsch pieces of jewellery that incorporated many elements exclusive to me such as custom printed guitar picks featuring myriad Volkswagens or English Bull Terriers. Although I still make these I have found that people's tastes have changed as fashion trends have moved on so my current favourite makes have to be either my macrame bead bracelets which incorporate VW themed charms or my hand stitched and beaded creations.
What have you created recently?
Recent makes have included a small mountain of amigurumi creatures, including snails, butterflies and caterpillars. My favourite range has to be my creepy/cute characters that include zombies, vampires and cuddly cthulthu! But my fairground fish, micro bunting and crocheted cupcakes remain firm favourites with my customers :)
