B. Candy Cane and Peppermint Soap

Something sweet and minty

C. Pumpkin Spice Soap

D. Snowflake Soap

There are different methods in making the soap. There are cold process method and melt and pour method. The difference between cold process and melt and pour is that cold press requires the saponification (a chemical process) to take place with the addition of the lye (an alkali) into the oil and mixture for it to solidify while melt and pour is simple pre-made and simply requires melt and pour into the mould, leaving out the saponification process.

If you wish to have the flexibility of mix and match the ingredients, the cold process method would be recommended. While if your objective is to maximize the quantity and utilising the time, the faster method would be melt and pour.

Things to take note when making handmade soap with cold process method.

1. Calculate the right ratio between the lye and the oil to obtain the right consistency and texture.

2. The temperature of both the lye and the oil mixture is crucial. Ensure both reaches the optimum temperature before mixing them together.

3. Be careful when dealing with lye, a highly corrosive product that should be handled with care. For safety concern, wear gloves and goggles. Keep it away from children especially.

4. Ensure that you allocate your supplies specially for soap-making. Do not mix them with the utensils for daily cooking purposes.
